A 10 minute ferry ride from the Bukit Merah Laketown Resort will take you to Orangutan Island that is a conservation sanctuary for this most beautiful creature. A visit here will yield some great photographic opportunities of the Orangutan who roam the island freely as they sometimes come quite close to the caged observation walkway visitors are limited to.
If staying at the resort a great choice are the traditional Malay chalets (kampung Air) built on stilts above Bukit Merah lake, alternatively there is the Laketown Hotel that is situated very close to the resorts main entrance.
